The illustration should show two colour coded buttons. The active computer will show within either button with a facility for selecting the screen and sound from one PC or toggling the switch permits the sound to be played from the second PC.This model is for DVI-D video connections,USB keyboard and USB mouse. The sound is a single lime green 3.5mm audio jack sharing the normal twin desktop speakers. It will not share surround sound or sub-woofers. I have had numerous problems with previous generations of KVM switches not being compatible with various hardware causing monitor interference patterns, keyboards or mice not appearing or locking up but at last I have found one that works with my GeForce Card, ATI Card and Samsung 24SB LED monitor. I was wary after reading reviews of some switches that had 'issues' at a resolution of 1920x1200, which is what I needed it to handle.Happily, this KVM handles things flawlessly. A feature which I especially like is the ability to independently switch the screen and the audio source. As the Mac handles my music library, having the option to switch to work on the PC but to leave the audio set to come from the Mac is a godsend. I can't comment on the keyboard/mouse handling, since I use separate ones specifically for each machine. - Except that I believe that if you use a mouse or keyboard with special functions on the designated keyboard/mouse USB ports, you may lose some functionality, as it emulates standard ones when they're switched away. I had no problem with the Windows XP PC it worked a treat. Unfortunately I couldn't use the mouse or the keyboard to work on the Windows 7 PC. I can connect a separate USB keyboard and mouse and that works but it does defeat the purpose of having a KVM switch (at the moment it is functioning only as a "V switch"). I phoned the Belkin helpdesk and logged a fault online at the Belkin support centre. I got two different responses. The nice guy on the phone told me that it will work with any operating system and he promised to get back to me with an update for the software for the KVM switch. The online people came back with "Please note that your Windows 7 computer is not compatible with your Belkin SOHO KVM Switch with Audio". A very different answer. My recommendation: until Belkin sort this out I would steer clear of this KVM switch if you have Windows 7. |
