As soon as I added the 2 x 3.5" 2TB disks, it suddenly became heavy. The caddy for the HDD is made out of plastic and it seems quite flimsy but it turned out to be ok. The first mistake I made was, I used the screws that came with the hard disk to insert the HDDs into the caddy. The caddy didn't fit into the NAS. I then realised QNAP had provided the screws for both 2.5" and 3.5" HDDs and these were much smaller than the ones provided by the HDD manufacturer. The caddy then slotted in without a problem.When you first switch on the device, you suddenly hear quite a loud whirring which almost turns into silence after a couple of seconds. Things didn't start off very well. I tried to use QNAP Finder application which tries to find the NAS to make the intial configuration easier. It couldn't find it. Setup does take a while, it needs to install a whole OS image (from CD or download) after installing a drive.I've not got the android streaming working yet, and for me it might not be useful anyway, but configuration is generally quite simple with a good web-based menu. The nicest thing I've seen to date that it does is USB drive archiving which could come in handy as a way of syncing camera cards onto the network.
